Adults and children buy these high powered water cannon for water fights during Songkran. It is an annual festival which takes place over three days during the traditional Thai New Year, April 13th-15th (in almost all provinces). The official Songkran festival lasts three days but in reality the whole week is taken over by a mass celebration as the whole country shuts down for a momentous water fight.

Part of the Haytor Granite tramway, a 16km track built of granite (rather than steel) that used gravity to send 12 carts full of granite at a time from the Haytor granite mine to Teigngrace where it was shipped to London. This trade lasted 20 years from 1820. The granite was used in the building of the London bridge that was subsequently sold to an American 50 years ago. The bridge was reassembled and it now stands at Lake Havasu in Arizona.

The cover (on the floor) was removed and the sub should have sunk when the water rushed in. The Germans left the plate nearby. The US Navy replaced the cover, pumped the water out and sailed the sub to Bermuda 2,500 miles away. The Germans did not know the sub was captured with 900 lbs of information including codes and 2 Enigma machines.

Kit Carson’s Beaver skin blanket. Sadly he waged a brutal campaign against the Navajo in 1863. When bands of Navajo refused to accept confinement on reservations, Carson terrorized the Navajo lands–burning crops, destroying villages, and slaughtering livestock. Carson rounded up some 8,000 Navajo and marched them across New Mexico for imprisonment on the Bosque Redondo Reservation, over 300 miles from their homes, where they remained for the duration of the Mexican-American war.

While well known, Geronimo was not a chief among the Chiricahua or the Bedonkohe band. However, since he was a superb leader in raiding and warfare he frequently led large numbers of men and women beyond his own following.

Pinal Air park is a specialised maintenance facility as well as a storage and scrap facility. It has 86 planes in storage at present. This desert climate is ideal for the preservation (or scrapping?) of aircraft. This 747-128 was built in 1976 and entered service with Air-France.in that year. In the mid 1990s it was acquired by TWA . It arrived at the airpark in 1997. TWA no longer exists, it was merged into American Airlines in 2001.

Frederic da Silva whose show Paranormal Mind Reading Magic I saw. . He asked me to think of a number between 1 and 100. I chose 49. He wrote this number above his autograph on a flyer. Stunning. I caught up with two ladies I sat next to during the show, they chose 7 and 89, he guessed both numbers. Two other people have seen the show 14 times and he has never failed at an illusion.

The Australian Bee Gees tribute band. Some of them were Australian and they performed quite a few of the classic songs very much like the original group.

I did 2 widths at 9:30pm and a dip in the spa. (One does not do 2 lengths of a pool when you cannot swim, 2 widths at the 4ft mark. I swam earlier in the day but at night the air was much cooler and the swim much more pleasant.

This sign is from the 1955 Moulin Rouge Casino that was open for only 6 months. It was the first casino to allow both black and white patrons. In all other casinos black performers were only allowed on stage and once their act was over they had to leave by the tradesman’s exit. It is thought that the Moulin Rouge was closed from pressure of the other casinos because the friends of the black entertainers would leave the other casinos to go and socialise at the Moulin Rouge thereby taking their trade away from the other casinos. NB This photo was from the web – I could not take my wide angle lens camera into the museum.
