The Vietnamese royal enclosure was first built in 1010, during the L\u00fd dynasty, and subsequently expanded by subsequent dynasties. It remained the seat of the Vietnamese court until 1810, when the Nguy\u1ec5n dynasty chose to move the capital to Hu\u1ebf. The ruins of the older citadel structures roughly coincide with the present-day Hanoi Citadel area in the Ba \u0110\u00ecnh District of the city. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Temple of Literature<\/h2>\n


\nV\u0103n Mi\u1ebfu literally translated as Temple of Literature (although a more accurate name should be Temple of Confucius, as V\u0103n refers to Confucius), is a temple dedicated to Confucius in Hanoi. The temple was built in 1070 at the time of Emperor L\u00fd Th\u00e1nh T\u00f4ng, and it hosted the Imperial Academy, Vietnam’s first national university, from 1076 to 1779.
\n<\/strong>
\n
\nConfucius c.\u2009551 \u2013 c.\u2009479 BCE), his teachings and philosophy underpin East Asian culture and society, and remain influential across China and East Asia to this day. His philosophical teachings, called Confucianism, emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice, kindness, and sincerity, as well as an emphasis on a ruler’s duty to their subjects.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n


\nThe Confucian court examination system in Vietnam was a system for entry into the civil service, based on knowledge of the classics and literary style from 1075 to 1919.
\nThey were instituted at court level by the L\u00fd dynasty’s Emperor L\u00fd Nh\u00e2n T\u00f4ng in 1075 and continued some 1000 years later toward the final years of the Nguy\u1ec5n dynasty’s Emperor Kh\u1ea3i \u0110\u1ecbnh. The examinations were suspended by the French in 1913

\nThe laureates’ stelae were first erected at Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam in 1484 under the reign of the Emperor Le Thanh Tong. Each stele was erected to engrave the names and birth places of the laureates of each examination.
\nVan Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam currently has 82 preserved doctoral laureates\u2019 stelae, which bear the names and places of birth of 1304 graduates from 82 royal examinations which were held trom 1442 to 1779. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Bach Ma temple is more than 1,000 years old, the oldest temple in the capital city. The history of this temple dates back to the 11th century, was built by the King Ly Thai To to honour a white horse that guided him to this site, where he chose to construct his city walls. The architectural construction seen today in the temple is more reminiscent of the 18th century due to a massive reconstruction. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nDuring the first meeting of the Provisional Government (September 3, 1945), President Ho Chi Minh proposed the Government organizing a general election to elect the National Assembly. He made a call to the nationwide people to promote their right by voting. On January 6, 1946, the General Election was held successfully, more than 90% of the total electorate in the country went to the polls, electing 333 National Assembly deputies and electing the official Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, headed by President Ho Chi Minh. In the Northern and Central regions, the people elect the People’s Councils at province-level and commune-level on the principle of universal suffrage. Administrative Committees at all levels were established instead of People’s Committees. The people’s democratic government apparatus in Vietnam was initially consolidated. On November 9, 1946, the National Assembly approved the first Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, affirming the Vietnamese people’s right to own the country and the right of freedom and democracy of the Vietnamese people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Late 1944, early 1945, World War Il entered the end stage, the conditions for the general uprising to seize power in Vietnam were ripe. On August 13, 1945, the National Uprising Committee issued Military Order No.1, ordering a general uprising. On August 19, 1945, tens of thousands of Hanoi people carried out a rally, armed demonstrations, occupied the headquarters of France – Japan, the uprising to seize power in Ha Noi was completely successful. On the momentum of the general uprising, the uprising continued to succeed in major cities such as Hu\u00e9 city (August 23, 1945), Sai Gon city (August 25, 1945). Within 15 days (August 14, 1945 – August 28, 1945) the general uprising was successful throughout the country, overthrowing the colonial regime. On August 30, 1945, king Bao Dai announced his abdication. Colonialism and feudalism in Vietnam completely ended. On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square (Ha Noi), on behalf of the Provisional Government, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration Of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

\nThe Confucian court examination system in Vietnam was a system for entry into the civil service, which was modelled after the Imperial examination in China, based on knowledge of the classics and literary style from 1075 to 1919.
\nThey were instituted at court level by the L\u00fd dynasty’s Emperor L\u00fd Nh\u00e2n T\u00f4ng in 1075 and continued some 1000 years later toward the final years of the Nguy\u1ec5n dynasty’s Emperor Kh\u1ea3i \u0110\u1ecbnh. The examinations were suspended by the French in 1913.
\nThe laureates’ stelae were first erected at Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam in 1484 under the reign of the Emperor Le Thanh Tong. Each stele was erected to engrave the names and birth places of the laureates of each examination.
\nVan Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam currently has 82 preserved doctoral laureates\u2019 stelae, which bear the names and places of birth of 1304 graduates from 82 royal examinations which were held trom 1442 to 1779. This is a valuable source of historical records emphasizing the tradition of fondness of study, respect for the teacher, and appreciation of the nation\u2019s talents.

Ho Chi Minh, the man (19 May 1890 \u2013 2 September 1969), colloquially known as Uncle Ho
\nwas a Vietnamese communist revolutionary, nationalist, and politician. He
\nserved as Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1945 to
\n1955, and as President from 1945 until his death in 1969. Ideologically a
\nMarxist\u2013Leninist, he was the Chairman and First Secretary of the Workers’
\nParty of Vietnam, the predecessor of the current Communist Party of Vietnam.
\nHo Chi Minh was born in Ngh\u1ec7 the French protectorate of Annam. He left
\nFrench Indochina to continue his revolutionary activities, he returned to
\nVietnam and led the August Revolution against the Japanese in August 1945,
\nwhich resulted in the independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
\nAfter the French returned to power the following month, Ho’s government
\nretreated to the Vi\u1ec7t B\u1eafc region and began guerrilla warfare. The French
\nUnion were defeated in 1954, ending the First Indochina War, and resulting
\nin the division of Vietnam, with the Vi\u1ec7t Minh in control of North Vietnam,
\nand anti-communists in control of South Vietnam. Ho officially stepped down
\nfrom power in 1965 due to health problems and died in 1969. North Vietnam
\nwas ultimately victorious against South Vietnam and its allies. Vietnam was
\nofficially unified in 1976. Saigon, the former capital of South Vietnam, was
\nrenamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honour.<\/strong><\/p>\n

French Indochina was a grouping of French colonial territories in Southeast Asia until its demise in 1954.
